"Looking back at Chang'an" - Architectural Professional Training Forum under the Integration of Practice and Education was successfully held at Chang'an University on December 26, 2020. As one of the important events for the 70th anniversary of Chang'an University, this forum was hosted by the School of Architecture. More than 10 outstanding alumni including government leaders, representatives of well-known enterprises, and representatives of scientific research institutes were invited to come to the alma mater to discuss student training, integration of practice and education, coordinated development, and seek a better future together.
The conference was divided into two parts: Forum and Roundtable. The forum was held at 9 am in the conference room on the second floor of the Administrative Conference Center of the North Campus of Chang'an University. Zhou Ping, Secretary of the Party Committee of Xi’an Beilin Museum, Yao Hong, General Manager of Shaanxi Construction Engineering Construction Supervision Company, Liu Gongyi, Deputy Director of the Airport New City Management Committee of Xixian New Area, Zhang Ning, Vice President of Xi’an Architectural Design and Research Institute Co., LTD, Huang Weilong, Deputy Director of Wenzhou Economic and Technological Development Zone Management Committee, Zhang Haifeng, General Manager of SZAD, Dai Kun, Founder of Beijing Easy-Home Interior Design Co., Ltd., Cao Qing, Deputy General Manager of Gansu Institute of Architectural Design and Research Co., Ltd., Hou Jian, General Manager of Shaanxi Branch, China Architectural Design Research, He Yubin, Vice President of the Fifth Design and Research Institute of China Northwest Architecture Design and Research Institute Co., Ltd., Yang Zhonghe, Dean of the Fourth Academy of Architecture of Shaanxi Provincial Architectural Design and Research Institute (Group) Co., Ltd. and the Vice President of Chang'an University, Professor He Shuanhai, Chang'an University Academic Affairs Office, Admissions and Employment Office, Social Cooperation Office and other functional departments and all party and government leaders of the School of Architecture, architecture teachers and more than 300 undergraduate students attended the forum. The forum was presided over by Liu Qibo, Vice Dean of the School of Architecture. Professor He Shuanhai, Vice President of Chang'an University, Li Xianfeng, Secretary of the Party Committee of the School of Architecture, and Huang Weilong, alumni representative, gave speeches. Yang Hongbin, Deputy Director of the Social Cooperation Office of Chang'an University, introduced the anniversary. At the opening ceremony of the forum, the School of Architecture, on behalf of Chang'an University, and Gansu Institute of Architectural Design and Research Co., Ltd. held a cooperation agreement signing ceremony.
Secretary Zhou Ping, the guest of the forum, took "Chang'an University, Chang'an School" as the theme, and formed the style of fusion design of ancient architecture and modern architecture of the Department of Architecture of Chang'an University. Deputy Director Liu Gongyi took "Thinking about the Integration of Urban Construction and Architecture Major - Taking the Development Zone Work Practice as an Example" as the theme, and integrated professional knowledge into urban construction. With the theme of "Craftsmanship-Comment & Method", Deputy Dean Zhang Ning mainly reported the overall process from plan to construction of actual projects taking Sun Simiao Memorial Hall and Tongchuan Museum as examples, and pointed out that architectural design must be considered repeatedly from the macro scale to the micro details. With the theme of "Being a Simple and Humanistic Architect", Deputy Director Huang Weilong explained the most basic quality characteristics of being an architect based on his own growth and work experience. Dean Zhang Haifeng shared the design works, design experience, and the necessary abilities of architects with the theme of "From Regional to Utopia". Alumni Dai Kun took "Three Tips for the Young" as the topic, hoping that young alumni will develop the habit of continuous learning and exploration, and be in line with outstanding scholars. Deputy General Manager Cao Qing explained and shared the trend of architecture education and industry reforms after the epidemic with the theme of "Going backwards and taking advantage of the trend". He pointed out that at critical moments, we must not be afraid of difficulties in our professional field, work hard to persevere, and keep moving forward.
The roundtable was held at 3 pm in the conference room on the third floor of the School of Architecture. The main participants included guest alumni, leaders of the School of Architecture, dean of the Department of Architecture, branch secretary and faculty representatives. Professor Hou Quanhua, Dean of the School of Architecture, introduced the development of the school. Associate Professor Liu Qibo, Deputy Dean, introduced the results of the integration of practice, education and research in the School of Architecture, the architecture professional training program and curriculum system. The alumni gave speeches on architectural professional education, subject evaluation, school development, school-enterprise cooperation and other topics. They gave substantive suggestions on the development of the school in terms of subject construction, students training, and joint training models. The alumni expressed their love for the school and expressed their willingness to do their best to contribute to the construction and development of the school.
This forum is a pre-event for the upcoming 70th anniversary of Chang'an University, creating celebration atmosphere, promoting school-enterprise cooperation, enhancing academic exchanges, and promoting contacts between schools and alumni, and laying a good foundation for further achieving win-win cooperation between the school and alumni.
